Mr. Whitelaw Reid to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received December 7.)

American Embassy, London, December 4, 1908.

WITH reference to my note of the 20th ultimo relating to the postponement of the Opium Conference at Shanghae out of deference to the wishes of China, I have now the honour to inform you that all the Powers participating in the Conference have consented to postpone the meeting thereof, and that in consequence that body will convene on the 1st February next instead of the 1st January.

I avail myself of this opportunity to express to you the appreciation and gratification of my Government at your concurrence in this suggestion.
